Why LYSIUM

1.5 billion tyres reach end of life every year. Most are stockpiled, burned or exported.

1.5billion

End-of-life tyres per year. Over 17 Mt.

4billion +

Tyres in stockpiles and landfills worldwide.

Stockpiles

Stockpiles burn.

Seseña, Spain, 2016: 10 hectares of tyres on fire, 10,000 residents evacuated. Kuwait: 42 million tyres in the desert, recurring fires.

Incineration

Value goes up in smoke.

Europe, 2019: 40% of end-of-life tyres used as fuel, mostly in cement kilns. 1.37 Mt of carbon, oil and steel, burned.

Export

The problem is shipped abroad.

India, 2023: 800,000 t imported, over 30% of global trade. 270 illegal pyrolysis plants shut down.

How LYSIUM works

Received. Shredded. De-steeled. Continuous thermolysis. Separated into oil, carbon and gas.

Pelletised, qualifiedtyres, high-grade rubber goods
Demand from tyre makers.Up to 1 Mt of rCB a year by 2030, estimated by Bridgestone and Michelin. Continental targets over 40% recycled and renewable materials by 2030.Tyrepress, 2022 · Tyretrade, Continental
PE/PP oilSECOND LINE · FROM PLASTIC WASTE

Light, low-sulphur oil for crackers.

A second thermolysis reactor for polyolefin waste. The oil goes to steam crackers and back into new plastics.

Counts as plastic recycling.Under EU rules, new plastics made from oil of recycled plastic waste count as recycled content, allocated by mass balance. Oil burned as fuel does not count.S&P Global on EU decision, Feb 2026
